This year's finals series is a five-week, top-ten format for the first time, which means teams sitting 8th–10th at this stage of the season are still genuinely alive — every win from here has real ladder significance, and that shows up in the intensity of the football being played.
Gather Round was played in South Australia from 9–12 April 2026 with all nine Round 5 matches staged across Adelaide Oval, the Barossa and Norwood, and the AFL has already confirmed South Australia will host it for at least another three years. The season's biggest crowd so far was 92,231 for Essendon v Collingwood in Round 7 — a reminder that the big-club blockbusters attract the sharpest betting attention of any round.
Every tip on this page starts with the same checklist. Form: each team's last five games, and whether recent wins came against finals-bound opposition. Venue and travel: interstate trips, six-day breaks and unfamiliar grounds all shift the probabilities.
