What is an AFL Multi Bet?
A multi bet combines two or more selections into a single bet. Every leg must win for the bet to pay out. The odds multiply together, giving you significantly higher potential returns. A $10 bet on three selections at $1.50 each would pay $33.75 ($10 x 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5).
Building Better Multis
Stick to 2-4 Legs
The most profitable multi bettors keep it tight. A 6-leg multi might look tempting at $15 odds, but the probability of all six legs winning is very low. Two or three well-researched selections give you a realistic chance while still boosting the odds.
Line Value Over Head-to-Head
If you're confident a strong favourite will win by plenty, taking them on the line (-15.5) boosts your multi odds significantly compared to the H2H price. A $1.20 H2H favourite might be $1.90 on the line — that's a huge difference in multi combinations.
Mix Markets for Better Odds
Don't just select head-to-head winners. Combine a line bet, a player prop (e.g. a forward to kick 2+ goals) and a total points over/under. Different market types can improve your overall odds structure.
Same Game Multi Strategy
Same Game Multis (SGMs) let you combine multiple markets from a single match. These are especially popular for AFL because of the range of available markets.
Tips for SGMs:
- Anchor your SGM with a team to win, then add player performance markets
- Avoid adding too many correlated outcomes that can't all fail simultaneously
- Add "Team A to win + Player X 25+ disposals + Total points over 160" for a balanced three-leg SGM
- Watch for key player inclusions or late withdrawals — these massively affect SGM value
Common Multi Betting Mistakes
- Adding too many legs: Each additional leg dramatically reduces your winning probability
- Chasing big odds: A $50 multi paying $1000 is exciting, but your strike rate will be abysmal
- Including short-priced favourites: A $1.10 leg doesn't add much value but increases risk
- Not using promotions: Many bookmakers offer multi insurance or bonus odds on selected matches
Best Multi Betting Promotions
